Virginia Tech football: Priority DT Christian Evans commits to the Hokies – Selambe

Virginia Tech’s big recruiting weekend got off to a great start Thursday when defensive tackle Christian Evans announced he was committing to the Hokies.

Evans is a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive tackle from Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Va. Stone Bridge is one of Virginia’s powerhouses and a big pickup for the Hokies. Evans joins his high school teammate, redshirt freshman tight end Zeke Wimbush, on VT’s roster.

Evans chose the Hokies over his other finalists, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

Why the Hokies?

“I picked Virginia Tech because it meets all of my criteria for college,” Evans told Evan Watkins of 247Sports. “Virginia Tech is a Top 20 public university and is the 47th best college in the country, showing Tech’s high-caliber academics.”

Evans cited his relationship with Virginia Tech’s coaching staff as another reason for choosing the Hokies.

“Another reason why I picked Tech is my great relationship with their staff and my background with them. Virginia Tech was the first school to really start recruiting me during my sophomore year.”

Evans officially visited Blacksburg last week when it became clear he’d be a Hokie.

Evans is the seventh commitment for Virginia Tech’s 2025 recruiting class, which could grow soon with several top targets on campus for official visits this weekend. Evans is the sixth player from Virginia in VT’s class.

Evans was the defensive line MVP at an Under Armour camp earlier this year and is viewed as a prospect on the rise. His commitment is a win for head coach Brent Pry on a number of fronts. First, he landed a good player. Secondly, it’s Pry’s second player from Stone Bridge, an important school.

Welcome home, Christain.
